Mrs H has her own issues of abandonment and lost love. She projects all her anger and anxiety on to other people like Pip. Seeing pain in Pip makes Mrs. H think she feels better about her own pain and disillusionment. In reality, it only intensifies her negative and self-destructive emotions.
