Great Expectations

Does Dickens think that all criminals are bad? How do you know?

If you look closely, all of Dicken's novels find a way of shedding just a bit of sympathy on his more illustrious and wayward characters. Magwitch is a likable criminal and an intricately woven character. The way we see Pip grow and change during the course of the novel, is done in the same way Dickens unveils the real Magwitch to us one piece at a time........ he is something far more than the grizzled, dirty escapee we meet early on. He has a huge heart, and he is completely generous.
