I, personally, do not perceive this novel as Dicken's best, but it is different that his previous works. In this novel, Dickens provides humor. We come to love and genuinely care about the characters, and we get to experience Pip's transformation first hand. Dickens surprises his readers with bouts of laughter, in addition to the gloom and doom. Thus, this is likely the first time his readers are not only engaged.....but invested.
