Initially Pip doesn't treat Magwich very well when he finds out that he (Magwich) is his bennefactor. I think we need to take into cosideration that Pip does begin to change his outlook.  Magwich believes that the amount of money you have, and how ostentatiously you spend it, is what gives one value. Thus, he has spent his life working for money to make a poor blacksmith boy a "gentleman." Pip begins to see that worth does not come from one's station in life.
