A toy gun is a symbol of the destruction of innocence. Jerome is a young boy who only wanted to be carefree for once and play with a toy gun. This toy gun served as an excuse for racial prejudice that ended his life. It shows how young black boys in America aren’t allowed to go through their childhood carefree, that even a toy can be an excuse to end their lives.
