why was he hated?

Why was the elephant hated?

The elephant wasn't necessarily hated, and there were mixed emotions about what should have been done. Elephants were valuable, but in this case, the elephant was wild and dangerous, and it had done an emormous amount of damage. Hate is too strong a word.
