Ivory's father is the spirit behind the game for his son. Ivory isn't even sure he wants to play anymore, and his father sees it, but none-the-less, it's a family thing. Ivory's father played for Odessa in a school that was all black (1960's), they called it Odessa's version of the "Negro League." He knew that football could be Ivory's way to college (he'd be the first in the family), but he also stood firmly behind his son'd wants and desires and would not push him. He was proud of him, but he did not demand from him.
