I am going to assume the film reflects the book. The family, school, and community passions all exist beneath the back drop of high school football. The narrative often seems bizarre when Bissinger shows just how much people are invested in this group od addolecent boys. The oil economy bust puts tremendous pressure on the community so they feed off the drug of high school football. Building a multi million dollar stadium for their school becomes more important than buying books or hiring teachers.
