how does freak and max become freak the migthy

As Max and Freak went down to the lake to see the fireworks for Fourth of July, Freak complained that he couldn't see, all he saw were peoples legs. Max then lifted Freak up to sit on his shoulders and it was completly normal to them. They soon start doing that in all there adventures and they became Freak the Mighty.
