Why does Victor tell Walton his story?

This question is only for the 1st through 4th chapter of the Frankenstein book by Mary Shelley.

think of it as the meaning in the Rime of the Ancient Maranier:( which Walton read) it is his pennance for creating the monster. He needs to tell someone what he has done.
