The monster murders Clerval and leaves the corpse on an Irish beach, coincidentally near where Frankenstein finds himself washed up after his unintentionally long voyage. Arriving in Ireland, Frankenstein is imprisoned for the murder of Clerval, and becomes seriously ill in prison.
