When Victor begins to be questioned about the murdered corpse, which he discovers is Henry's, he sees the "black finger marks" around Henry's neck and realizes that just like little William, Henry had been strangled. More symbolically, just has Victor felt guilty about William's death, he also knows that he is guilty of Henry's murder because he created the monster whose "black" fingers strangled the life out of his two loved ones. The strangulation deaths caused by the creature suggest his desire to squeeze the life and desire to live out of Victor just as Victor "squeezed" life into the monster.
