Yes it was. She was colateral damage for Victo's sins.

No, she shouldn't have died. Victor's foolishness and his failure to gage the extent of the creature's desire for revenge was his own fault. He could have taken precautions, he could have looked at himself and the specific reasons for his neglect of what was his "own" creation, and he could have warned and informed the people he loved of the danger he KNEW existed.
