That's pretty difficult to say. Each had important contributions. If I had to pick one, I'd say Ben Franklin was pretty important. He was not from aristocracy and had little formal schooling. He was a self-taught, self-made man. He epitomized the whole American independent work ethic. More importantly, he fought against slavery even though it drew him much criticism.
