What does Ellis' statement ," The central events of the achievements of the revolutionary era were political." mean?

If you look at this quote in context, you'll see that this quote (in whole) is Ellis' main point. It was the men, political beliefs and all, who together, compromised and shaped America as we know it. They collaborated, bullied, and cajoled..... but they worked together..... that is what this statement means.
