How did Napoleon’s actions hurt Jefferson and his faith in the French Revolution?

Jefferson believed and had insisted that the French Revolution was the American Revolution on European soil. He also insisted that France was America's most important ally. Napoleon's takeover of the Republic and subsequent claim of dictatorship belied Jefferson's own beliefs.
