Charlie's mother wants him to be like everyone else regardless of his limitations. His father is more resigned to what he believes his son will or won't be capable of. They both love Charlie, and they both have his welfare at the forefront of their concerns. Mom gets frustrated because she tends to Charlie on a full time basis. The bathroom incident might just have been the final straw of her day. We can look at his father as being calmer and more realistic, but we also have to give his mother some slack and understand her frustration.
