Why does Charlie have to promise not to read about psychology?

From the text, we can infer that Dr. Strauss didn't want Charlie to confuse his newly attained knowledge with psychiatric theory. In my opinion, he didn't want Charlie to theorize or question the changes he was experiencing, as they might possibly impede his progress.
