Compare Dr. Guarino's treatment of Charlie with Professor Nemur's treatment.

Dr. Guarino is a fraud looking for a paycheck and preying on desperate families. He bilks Charlie's mother out of a good deal of money, using fraudulent methods.

Professor Nemur, on the other hand, is a well educated scientist. His methods are unproven, possibly just as fraudulent as Guarino's. Charlie is a variable in an experiment..... a guinea pig. He isn't seen as a young man, he is merely another lab rat being used to garner a conclusion.

Both of these men see Charlie as a way to make money.... nothing more.
