"A Good Man Is Hard to Find" was adapted for film in 1992 by Jeri Cain Rossi, starring Joe Coleman. The film, titled "Black Hearts Bleed Red," was not well-received by critics. The story was also adapted as a modern chamber opera by David Volk at the University of Georgia in 2003.

"The Life You Save May Be Your Own" was first published in the Kenyon Review in the spring of 1953. It was adapted for television and broadcast on CBS's Schlitz Playhouse in 1957, starring Gene Kelly. Flannery O'Connor was not pleased with the adaptation.

"Everything That Rises Must Converge," a collection of short stories published in 1965, after O'Connor's death, included the story of the same name, "The Enduring Chill," and "The Lame Shall Enter First," among others. The title "Everything That Rises Must Converge" is taken from French philosopher Pierre Teilhard De Chardin's "Omega Point."
