Why is John Bradley a “reluctant hero?

He is a reluctant hero because he was present on that fateful day at Iwo Jima. He wasn't there to be a hero, he was there to do his job for his country. He didn't ask to be a part of that very small group that has been remembered for being at the raising of the flag that day; he's just one of the men who surivived it.
