Dunstan exhibits many traits that are similar to David Copperfield. Much like Copperfield, as a child, Dunstan is naive, idealistic, and sensitive boy. Both characters have a romantic idealized quality to them. They see beyond the present and value traits in people others do not see. For Dunstan, that would be Mrs. Dempster and, for Copperfield it would have been Agnes.
