The novel, Fever 1793, begins with an introduction to the protagonist..... Mattie Cook. When we first meet Mattie, she is a teenage girl, much like any other teenager, who is facing the normal changes and feeling felt by every teenager throughout history. The year changes..... dealing with hormonal changes and moving toward adulthood does not.

Plague.... and contagious diseases have also been around forever. Throughout history, infectious disease has wreaked havoc on the world in many different forms, and people have reacted to these diseases in much the same way. Some people stay to help, others try to cure, and many run away.
