1.       Act One, scene one begins with a Friday night “ritual of talk and drink” between Troy and his friend Bono.  How is the tern “ritual” used in this context?

Fences is both a literal and figurative device. Fences becomes more an idea of the social context in the back yard. Rose sees the building of the fence as something good while Bono feels that the Rose merely wants to fence in the people that she loves. To others fences don't keep people in rather they keep people out.
