How does the narrator‘s point of view affect the way events are described in the story

The point of view is almost exclusively that of the narrator, Jeanne Wakatsuki, who leads us through her coming of age in internment. We see things from a new generation of Japanese American caught between old and new culture as well as struggling against systemic racism.
