How does Papa embarrass Jeanne in front of her classmates?

Papa embarrasses Jeanne because he overdresses and appears condescending. He isn't friendly, and he can't bring himself to be anything more than cordial. Papa stood on ceremony and embraced his culture. Jeanne wanted to belong..... and her father appeared to be the foreigner she'd fought so hard to overcome.
