Perry- He can't afford to go to college (his family doesn't have the money), so he enlists believing that the war will be over before he has to shoot a gun (there are many rumors that there is impending peace).
Jenkins- Joined because of family pressure/ his father was a colonel and wished his son to join the military as a career.
PeeWee- Poor/ just wanted to have all of the things he didn't have in the slums

Lobel enlists in the army because he wants to convince his father that he is not a homosexual. Sorry it took me so long to locate this!
