Fallen Angels

Situational irony is a discrepancy between what is expected and what happens. Jenkins says that his father has a "game plan" for his army career how does this contribute to the irony of Jenkins's death?

His father's "game plan" was to have him work through the ranks of the army to go to Officers Candidate School. Ironically, Jenkins is blown up by a VC trap on his first day in the field.
