Fahrenheit 451 is the temperature at which books burn. The main idea or theme of the novel surrounds that statement. The novel illustrates the terrible cost of censoring knowledge. Without the wisdom that books contain, a society is stagnant and vacuous; it might as well burn along with the books it destroys.
