Unlike interactions with his wife, Montag's interactions with Clarisse are upfront and personal. When Montag sees his reflection in her eyes, he sees himself as he really is. For him, this is the beginning of his transformation. Montag's discussions with Clarisse have given him the vision of the man he wants to be... and that isn't the man he sees when looking into her eyes.
