what is on montag`s helmet, arm, and chest?

The slamander is on his arm and the phoniex is on his clothing . The phoniex rises from the ashes and begins new life. Very ironic because these firemen burn houses that have books in them rather then put the fire out. The slamander will bring new life into a sitiuation. Ironic because this novel is about conformity and there is no rebirth with conformity.
