Fahrenheit 451

"Well this fire'll last me the rest of my life." MEANING??

"You ever seen a burned house? It smolders for days. Well this fire'll last me the rest of my life. God! I've been trying to put it out, in my mind, all night..."

What is the significance of this quote from Montag? How can you connect it to the Old Woman (the woman killed in a fire a few pages back).

Montag is lamenting about burning the old woman and her books. The image haunts his mind. Montag suspects that there is something special in both the old woman and in her books. The painful images as well of the feeling of profound loss lingers in his mind.
