Montag feels something that he has never felt before. Montage starts to question if he is truly happy and he becomes saddened by his thoughts. Clarisse symbolizes a type of clarity that Montag longs for. She presents unanswered questions of the freedom of his society. Montag juxtaposes these new feelings with everything that society represents. Montag begins to despise the vacuous and self-obsessed dystopia that Society has become. He begins to long for wisdom and passion that has been sucked out of society in the name of progress and stability.
