montag and midred cannot remember how they first met ten years ago. is it significant that they can't remember, or is that an unreasonable expectation. (pg.43)

this is a question on my homework and i dont know how to respond to it really

This forgetting is typical of the relationship that they have with one another. They cannot remember because nothing in their society programs them to have particularly intimate relationships. Their "family" is on the TV screen; they have few friends and those become part of the family. They live in a somewhat emotionless world and so have no reason to remember anything that we could call personal.
