I mentioned that everyone, including Montag, seems robotic and robots do what they're programmed to do, whether it's eating and sleeping or setting fire to books. I think it's possible that Montag's thought process isn't complete because he's been robotic for 30 years. It's kind of like a scratched DVD: it skips or freezes in some places and works just fine in others. That's why Montag feels like he's going crazy or that he can't process more than one thing at a time; maybe he's short-circuiting in the head.
