For starters, the action itself begins in heaven. God sends Death to summon the main character. (Everyman)

Directly after, God's messenger tells the reader to pay close attention..... reminding us of the day of reckoning; Christ's second coming.

Everyman is presented from the Roman Catholic point of view. Everyman, represents all of us. Eternal rewards are gained through doing good works, taking communion, and confession. Everyman is given the last rites before entering the afterlife.

The major themes are all based on the teachings of Christianity; taking stock of our lives, the deceptive appearance of sin, giving to others, God's mercy, and the final judgement.
