What would be lost if Alice Walker had chosen to write dialogue in the same style that she uses for description?

Walker's writing style is poetic, and her dialogue is realistic.... just like her setting. Her use of dialogue illustrates the differences between Mama and Dee... how far removed Dee is from her roots.
