what does dee and maggie have in common
Both Dee and Maggie have the same mother and the same history. I think the similarities end there. Dee is attractive in the conventional sense. She is slim and has feminine features. Dee is flamboyant and sophisticated. She returns home like a tourist from a "civilized" city looking for quaint souvenirs from somebody els's past. Maggie is a product and reflection of her home. She is not attractive in the same way Dee is. There is an authenticity about Maggie which Dee tries so desperately to purge. Where Dee is aggressive Maggie is timid.
