how do you think the mother feels about Dee's success ? is she proud or does she have mixed feelings ?

 Early in the story, mother fantasizes that she is a part of Dee's success. She imagines she is on the Johnny Carson show sharing in Dee's success. In reality mother feels estranged from her daughter. She is happy Dee has accomplishments but disappointed at Dee's pretentiousness towards Maggie, Dee’s sister, and mother’s life.
