Reading the story in the first person (Mama's point of view) allows the reader an indepth look at her feelings and motivations. With this type of narration, we form a connection with Mama, we come to understand her views, as well as her cultural heritage, and why that culture is so important to her. In the end, we get it...... we completely comprehend why Mama wants their heritage to be touched.... to be used..... to be remembered, cherished, and even repeated.
