Dee only appreciates her heritage in terms of what it can get her.... she seeks to better herself by embracing her roots. She distances herself from her family and ancestral heritage, all while embracing those things as artifacts.

Dee is a selfish character that only really cares about the objects left behind, rather than it's meaning or it's history. She focuses on her own personal benefit.
