Long white aprons marked the house servants. Whereas, the vaqueros (ranch hand, cowboys) were defined by their straw hats, baggy pants (tied at the ankle), and bandanas wound around their foreheads and necks (to keep away the dust, bugs, and protect them from the sun).

The landowners were well dressed. Esperanza in a silk dress..... ribbon in her hair. Her mother, always elegant, braid crowning her head. Esperanza's papa dressed just as well, sporting a moustache, which was curled at the ends.
