Esperanza was still missing her father and not comfortable leaving her beloved Abuelita. On Page 51, Esperanza hugs and kisses her goodbye. Abuelita tells Esperanza that she doesn't know how much of their communication will get through, but that until they saw each other again, Esperanza was to finish her crochet...... Esperanza's last words on the page were "Please get well. Please come to us." These are the words of a young girl not ready to leave her grandmother.
