esperanza rising

Munoz was inspired to write by the stories she was told by her grandmother as a child. Esperanza's name means hope, and the objective of the story, in Abuelita's words shines through, as she tells Esperanza, "Do not be afraid to start over." The novel is one of hope, and most of all, encouragement.
