I don't have a copy of the book so I don't have page numbers. School officials say that migrant children have a lot of emotional baggage. The separation between mother and child creates irreparable emotional damage that impacts every minute of the children's lives. The resentment the children feel toward their mothers never really goes away. Similarly, the guilt the mothers feel for having left their children also persists. Even after mother and child are reunited in the U.S., new issues arise, often resulting in negative consequences.
