Nazario provides some perspective on the boy's journey. Unlike the heroes of the Odyssey and the Grapes of Wrath, whose stories end in reunion and peace, Enrique finds life with Lourdes to be difficult. Children like Enrique dream of finding their mothers and living happily ever after, but reality soon sets in.
