Nazario provides some perspective on the boy's journey. Unlike the heroes of the Odyssey and the Grapes of Wrath, whose stories end in reunion and peace, Enrique finds life with Lourdes to be difficult. Children like Enrique dream of finding their mothers and living happily ever after, but reality soon sets in. I think Enrique's mother understands that her son’s journey parallels other migrant journeys that are fraught with hardship and danger. Enrique learns that his mother's life is very hard. She works long hours for lower pay than American citizens get.
