The door opens onto a cliff, and Ender notices the beauty around him. Surrounded by such perfection, he does not care whether he dies or not in the game, so he jumps off the cliff. A cloud catches him and takes him to a room in a castle with no apparent exit other than windows that look out "over a certainly fatal fall." A snake there says, "I am your only escape. Death is your only escape". The game, like his life, is distressing to Ender. He wants it to end because he wants to find some peace. THere is a sense that Ender would prefer to die.
