Ender's Game has often been cited a good book to read by readers who are not fans of science fiction. Why does it appeal to both fans of science fiction and those who do not usually read science fiction?

For all its sci-fi action, Ender's Game is pretty character driven. There are some pretty thought provoking themes wrapped up into some well developed characters. Ender, for example, is a sympathetic protagonist yet there are elements of mystery and danger to his personality. Card uses his characters' personalities to blur the differences between good and bad, right and wrong.
