Emily Dickinson's Collected Poems

THE SHELTER.

The body grows outside, --

The more convenient way, --

That if the spirit like to hide,

Its temple stands alway

Ajar, secure, inviting;

It never did betray

The soul that asked its shelter

In timid honesty.
