What is significant about the fact that Mr. Hyde is described as attacking Carew with “ape-like fury”? Remember how science is really coming into its own during these times.

Science still viewed apes as genetically separate from homo sapiens. Apes were attributed to violence where as humans, who are probably more violent, are seen as civilized.
